Ground beef and bitter melon (or bitter gourd) is a popular combination of Pakistani cuisine. Give this dish a try for a slightly bitter but very comforting experience!

Ingredients

Masala Ingredients

Dry masala ingredients

Directions

Pair off the dish with roti to get a wonderful taste.

Step 1

Prepare your masala ingredients as shown in the picture.

Step 2

Heat your pressure cooker and add oil, once the oil is hot add onions and saute them. Now add ginger, garlic paste, green chilies, and turmeric (I'm using fresh turmeric you can replace it with turmeric powder). Saute them and add tomatoes and dry masala ingredients. Cook them for 1-2 mins once tomatoes are mushy.

Step 3

Add beef mince in the masala 1/2 cup water and close the lid of the pressure cooker.* Once the pressure cooker starts to whistle let it whistle for 4-5 mins and then turn off the heat. *I had frozen mince that's why I'm using a pressure cooker to cook it. If you have fresh minced meat then the steps would be a little different. I will share the recipe for that as well.

Step 4

I transferred the mince into another pot (Karahi) as I have to make another dish in the pressure cooker. Cook the mince for another 5 mins and till there's no water left in the mince.

Step 5

In another pot (frying pan or karahi) add oil to fry bitter gourd/melon. Fry bitter gourd/melon for about 5 minutes, or until it is cooked and crisp around the edges.

Step 6

Add the fried bitter melon to the beef mixture, being careful not to add any excess oil. Lower the heat to the lowest setting, cover, and let this mixture simmer for about 5 minutes.

Step 7

Garnish it with thinly sliced ginger and green coriander.

Conclusion

Enjoy the delicious qeema karely with roti, rice, bread, or anything you like to.
