Tahiri (Aloo chawal) is the most loved dish among Pakistani people. It’s easy to cook and all the ingredients are easily available in the supermarket. It goes well with curry but I leave this choice to the viewers how they like it to be. Either with curry or any salad.

Personally, I like to have beef or chicken along with it.

Tahiri is full of flavor and tastes good too. You can have it as a main dish at any event or even during lunch. Usually, it is eaten with kachumar salad and some mint raita.



Step 1

In a large pot add oil, fry thinly sliced onions. Fry them for few minutes.

Step 2

After frying the onions then add thinly sliced tomatoes, green chilies, all the spices, ginger garlic paste and cooked on medium heat for a while.

Step 3

Cut the potatoes longitudinally we call it ship shape. Add the potatoes to the masala. Fry them for 2-3 minutes then add water (1.5 cups of water for 1 cup of rice). Cover the pot with the lid and let the mixture boil.

Step 4

Once the mixture starts to boil add rice. Stir it and cover it with the lid. Let the mixture get cooked until all the water is soaked up by the rice. Soak a cloth in water and cover the lid of the pot with that cloth. Put a Tawa or any other flat pan on the stove and put the pot above it. Turn the heat on high flame. Once you start seeing steam coming out of the pot turn the heat to the lowest mark. After 10-15 minutes, move the rice upside down and put the lid back and cook for another 5-10 minutes.
